Expressway chief says new Phuket, Samui tollways will end traffic horrors
New tollways planned for Phuket and Samui will solve many of the traffic problems hindering the islands’ potential as vacation getaways, according to the chief of the Expressway Authority of Thailand.
Thailand’s hotel sector maintained strong momentum in 2024, with Bangkok and Phuket both achieving 79% occupancy rates. Average Daily Rates (ADR) hit record highs, reaching THB 4,241 in Bangkok (+7.4% YoY) and THB 5,481 in Phuket (+10% YoY), driven by surging international arrivals, especially from China, Russia, and India.
The first half of 2024 saw the opening of one new hotel, bringing the total to 44,838 rooms. By year-end, five additional hotels are anticipated to open, adding 1,117 rooms—a 3.5% increase from the previous year
